Contrast
as the
Subject

I photograph the places where what we have built meets what was already there. Not the celebrated view — the tension at the edge. Steel lattice against open sky. A Victorian gasometer embracing new apartments. A power station becoming a park. These are not architectural documents. They are studies in the negotiation that makes cities readable as human artefacts embedded in a world that predates and will outlast them.

“Every frame is organised around a contrast I cannot resolve. That irresolution is the subject.”

About the Practice

How the
Image
Is Made

I work alone, in available light, at hours when a space exists on its own terms. I return to the same site repeatedly — the first visit is reconnaissance. What I am looking for is not the perfect view but the angle that makes familiar architecture briefly strange.

01
Site ReadingMultiple visits, different conditions. I map the intersections of natural and architectural light.
02
The Empty HourDawn, dusk, or closed periods. The building without its audience — structure without performance.
03
Medium FormatFujifilm GFX. The larger sensor captures tonal gradations that smaller formats compress away.
04
Tonal CraftMinimal post-production. What the camera cannot capture, I do not manufacture.

Working
on Brief

I work with architects, developers, galleries, and private collectors who want images that go beyond documentation — photographs that communicate the intent of a building as an argument rather than a record.

05 — Materials

The Print
as Object

The photograph does not end at the image. The frame, the paper, the glass — each is a decision about how the work lives in a room. I work with specialist framers and archival studios to ensure the physical object matches the quality of the image it holds.

Gallery Silver frame — brushed aluminium
Frame 01 Gallery Silver

Brushed aluminium with white museum mat. The standard for gallery presentation — clean, recessive, lets the image carry the room.

Brushed Copper frame — residential
Frame 02 Brushed Copper

Satin copper finish with ivory mat. Designed for residential settings where the frame should complement without competing with the image.

Collector Dark frame — ebonised
Frame 03 Collector Dark

Deep-profile ebonised moulding with antique silver detailing. For collector editions and monumental prints where the frame is part of the artwork.
